Changes to Temporary Graduate Visa Program – Effective 1 July 2024

Overview

The Australian Government is updating the Temporary Graduate visa programs starting July 1, 2024. These changes include:

Graduate Work Stream

Name

Renamed as Post-Vocational Education Work stream.

Age

Maximum age reduced to 35. Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders: under 50 years of age

Academic Requirements

Holders of associate degrees, diplomas, or trade qualifications are eligible. Degree holders must apply through the Post-Higher Education Work stream.

Stay Period

Up to 18 months, or up to 5 years for Hong Kong or British National Overseas passport holders.

Post-Study Work Stream

Name

Renamed as Post-Higher Education Work stream.

Extension

‘Select degree’ 2-year extension discontinued.

Age

Maximum age reduced to 35 for applicants. Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders: under 50 years of age

Stay Period

  • Bachelor degree: up to 2 years
  • Masters (coursework and extended): up to 2 years
  • Masters (research) and doctoral degree (PhD): up to 3 years

Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders: up to 5 years.

Stay durations for Indian nationals remain unchanged:

  • Bachelor degree (including honours) – up to 2 years
  • Bachelor degree (with first class honours in STEM, including ICT) – up to 3 years
  • Masters (coursework, extended and research) – up to 3 years
  • Doctoral degrees (PhD) – up to 4 years.

Second Post-Study Work Stream

Renamed as Second Post-Higher Education Work stream.

Replacement Stream

The Replacement stream will cease.
